The Argentine footballer Lionel Messi continues in the sights of the Spanish authorities, since this morning his final appeal with respect to pending tax evasion case was disqualified. Although his lawyers argued once again that he never took the time to examine their contracts and manage their finances, the Spanish courts do not think that this is a compelling reason for Messi is exonerated of the charges.
Last October Messi was charged with evading payment of a sum of almost four million euros in taxes.The case also involves the athlete's father, who apparently was responsible for bringing the finances of his famous son.
Messi and his father are being charged for withholding taxes had to be paid between 2007 and 2009. Apparently this money was sent to companies located in Belize and Uruguay, responsible for selling the image rights of footballer companies like Adidas , Pepsi-Cola, and Danone. The defense argues that the star Messi unaware how their money was being administered. The Spanish judge in charge of the case did not consider that their supposed ignorance was sufficient reason for eliminating the charges against him, reports the BBC .
It is noteworthy that in 2013 the accused paid five million euros to cover its debt to the Treasury.
Earlier this year a documentary simply titled "Messi" director Alex de la Iglesia was released in cinemas in several countries. The film explores the consent of the player from start to stardom from the point of view closer to the people.
